Canada PR Point System
Canada runs a path-breaking points based system to welcome the ‘best and the brightest’ talents to its shores. Called Canada Permanent Resident (PR) Points system, it’s an immigration system through which the nation judges a skilled candidate’s worth on the basis of these 6 specific pre-decided factors:
- English language
- Education Qualification
- Work Experience , and
The Maple Leaf Country runs this Points Based System at two levels federal and provincial. While the former is called Canada Express Entry Program, the latter is known as the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Nearly every province and territory in the nation has its own exclusive PNP.
Express Entry Immigration
To be eligible for immigration to the nation on a permanent basis it’s compulsory to score not less than 67 points out of the 100 points available, under any of the three streams:
- Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC)
- Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC), and
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
If you fail to get this minimum score, your profile will not be allowed to compete against others in the Express Entry Bank.
However, if you get the minimum score, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will later give you points on the basis of some core and additional factors. It will do so under the Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS). While a total of 1200 points are available (600 each for core and additional), you must aim to get high CRS Score to become eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from the IRCC.
Such an invitation will mean you have fared well and the IRCC finds you a good candidate for Permanent Residence. However, it may not necessarily mean you will get your prized visa. The reason: besides getting a high score, it’s also mandatory that you fulfill other compulsory requirements, including health and character tests and interview.
Still, getting an ITA is something to feel proud of as not many really get it given the incredibly high competition from other similarly qualified applicants.

What to do if your score is not good enough?
Well, improve your credentials!
For example, you can learn the second official language of the nation, French. It will fetch you some additional points.
You may also improve your educational qualifications for the object. For instance, if you have just a Bachelor’s Degree, you can peruse Master’s to get some extra points.
Seek & Get Provincial Nomination
Similarly, you may seek and get it from any of your preferred provinces or territories.
For this, you have two options:
You can apply straight to the said province or territory, and then with the nomination in your pocket, you can apply through the EE Program. With the nomination already in your favor, your profile will become richer by a handsome 600 points, nearly guaranteeing you an ITA.
You can seek nomination while creating your profile for Express Entry Program. In such a scenario, all you have to do is express an interest in moving and settling in the province or territory of your choice. If your profile is strong, and if any of the provinces or territories, looking for a similar candidate, finds it good enough for its economy, it will nominate you. Resultantly, your profile will become richer by 600 extra points.
You may also improve your score by 200 additional points provided you have an offer of job from any Canada-based recruiter.
You may improve your score by another 15 points in case any of your siblings is based in the Maple Leaf Country.
In short, through different ways, you can boost your CRS Score and Canada immigration chances, to become a proud resident in this highly developed, multi-cultural and multi-ethnical overseas destination.
